  1. This is so incredibly useful. I don’t use WordPress often, so this will definitely help me when I do. I currently have two blogs on there, but they are just backups to my current blog. I’m contemplating and debating whether or not to switch. WordPress seems to be more modernized than most platforms.

    • Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your comment. I see that you don’t have your profile picture set up… Gravatar is integrated with WordPress, but if you are using a different Content Management System such as Blogger, you can still sign up with Gravatar directly. If that’s what you’d like to do, watch the video in this article starting from 6:39 or check again the “Create a Gravatar Account” section in this post.

I’m using Managed WordPress Hosting at Wealthy Affiliate, which gives me great flexibility of WordPress CMS and takes away any technical headaches. Love it!

    • Hi Geneva,

Have you noticed the video in my post? I hope it provides even better guidance for the visual learners on how to add a user in WordPress and set a profile picture on Gravatar.

      Thanks for your comment,

  2. Love how well you have laid out the instructions here for anyone to follow. Couldn’t agree more that you need to be more personable with readers to develop like and trust. ‘Admin’ is indeed a role but is impersonal when used for writing or commenting on a website.

    • Hi Nicole,

Thank you for your kind words regarding my training. It’s so nice seeing your face while talking to you! 🙂 The difference is: ‘Admin’ is an impersonal default user in WordPress; Administrator is a role, but Nicole is a friendly person (I can tell by your smile and sparkle in your eyes), who, I’m sure, has the role of an administrator to her own website.

      Warm wishes to you,

  3. I’ve only been using WordPress for about 2 years and I have found it to always be pretty intuitive as long as you have a general idea of computers. That being said this was an excellent write up on how to add users as it is so important to understand the different levels of users and admins when setting up your site for the first time.

    • Hello Scott,

I agree that WordPress is pretty intuitive for those who are comfortable on the computer. The main idea of most of my posts and all of my training is that EVERYONE, including those who consider themselves computer-illiterate, can easily learn and become a website administrator and online business owner.

Thank you for complimenting my way of delivering the instructions. I offered this one topic in text and video format, and that’s how Wealthy Affiliate offers its training. The difference is that WA covers in its training each and every step needed to become an online business owner and continues with advanced lessons on how to grow your business and gain success. It also takes a lot of responsibilities managing websites off the bloggers’ shoulders as it provides a fast, safe and yet very affordable environment for the writers and website administrators.

      All the best,

  4. This post breaks everything down in a very easy to understand way for new users. I find that many WordPress users fail to tap into the options available through the creation of different users – it’s a great tool that can help to make many processes easier, such as the sharing of posts by a regular guest blogger or hiring a content creator.

    • Hi Britt,

Oh, I totally agree with you! User roles in WordPress make outsourcing some of the work or even publishing guest-authors’ articles so much easier, and authors may have the control they need over the article(s) they publish on other person’s site.

Thank you for your comment. Warm wishes.

    • Hi Ivana,

I’m glad you figured it out… May I ask why you aren’t using it? Or have you set up an avatar on your website somehow rather than Gravatar?

  6. One of the things I’ve discovered over many years of blogging is that it starts out simple, but the technology gets a little more complex as you gain experience. Thanks for including this information in a video — I think it’s often easier to follow along that way.

    • Hi Lyosha,

I’m glad you found this helpful. While WordPress is integrated with Gravatar, Gravatar can be used independently from WP – so, if your website is not a WordPress site, you can still set your profile picture on Gravatar.

      Good luck,

    • Hi Erica,

Thank you so much! I see people in my Wealthy Affiliate community, who follow the training, set up their Gravatar for their first website, and forget how they did it. 🙂 Then, I see lots of these questions from the members when they create another site and want to use a different picture.

Also, as people’s businesses grow, they want to hire helpers, and then “how to add a user with a specific set of rights” question arises. Our community counts 2 million people. So, I assumed that if I see this type of question inside, there must be people asking the same questions outside of WA. Thank you for confirming my assumption.

Of course! Thank you for sharing this information with those who might benefit from it!

      Be well,
      ~ Julia
